Christy's story
the brave woman who started it all.
Our organization is named after Christy, who lived 20 courageous years with congenital heart disease and received the gift of life through a heart and double-lung transplant at just 27 months old. Through every hospital stay and challenge, Christy's strength and joy inspired everyone around her. Today, her memory lives on through Christy's Treasure Chest — bringing comfort, hope, and smiles to children facing their own battles. To a child facing illness, it's a friend, a comfort, and a reminder that someone cares. Christy's Treasure Chest was born from one young woman's twenty-year journey of courage — and every Adventure Bear we send carries her message forward: you are not alone

Hi, I'm Dawna Hagan, founder of Christy's Treasure Chest.
Christy's Treasure Chest was created in memory of my daughter, Christy, whose courage and strength continue to inspire everything we do. Throughout her life, she faced complex medical challenges, and our family experienced both the hardships of chronic illness and the incredible kindness of people who walked alongside us.
Those experiences shaped my heart for serving other families facing similar journeys.
Today, Christy's Treasure Chest exists to bring hope, comfort, and encouragement to children with chronic and life-changing medical conditions through meaningful programs, community partnerships, and acts of kindness. Every child deserves to feel seen, loved, and supported, and every family deserves to know they are not walking this path alone.
As a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, I also believe that every journey can have a purpose. Through our Adventure Bear Program and the generosity of volunteers and supporters, we're creating lasting memories and sharing hope—one child, one mile, and one act of kindness at a time.
